Immigration to the United States may be divided into two distinct periods. They had distinctive reasons for emigrating from their native lands, and for choosing North America.

This happened because of the gold rush. The gold rush was when gold was discovered in California. People from every country imaginable fled to America. it was as if the colonial times were repeating. Then with the British, Spaniards, and French and now with people from around the world. Our country was founded by immigrants, but now they were being treated very harshly. Before the civil war immigrants came and were not bothered with. Now the African Americans were free and more people were coming the Americans were desperate to get rid of all these people. They started by not allowing any more Chinese immigrants to come. The immigrants were already miserable, but to make things worse the were discriminated against, The thought they were blessed if anyone in the family went to school.
